A mother of three has died in the UK after being infected with the H1N1 swine flu virus! A lot has been made of the information in the media that she was only 36 and that she was fit and healthy. Surgeons at the Royal Blackburn Hospital in Lancashire did their best to try and save her but said that the damage done by the virus was too great.

Ms. Goddard originally thought she had a cold but was rushed to hospital after she started to have breathing difficulties. Despite being given the influenza medication Tamiflu, the virus had already taken control of her and she just couldn't fight back. But what everybody seems not to be mentioning is that the biggest factor which allowed the swine flu virus to take hold of her was that she was a smoker.
When doctors examined her they noticed that her oxygen level was critically low and that her lungs had stopped functioning properly. Smokers are much more likely to get influenza and are much more probable to have difficulty in dealing with its symptoms. Being a smoker during an influenza pandemic greatly increases the chances of you suffering from serious health problems and even death.
The mother of Ms. Goddard said the people should be made more aware of exactly how dangerous the swine flu virus was and that its name should be changed to reflect something more serious. It is at times like this that families really appreciate just how dangerous smoking is and they are definitely all regretting not making more of an effort to get her to quit.
If you have loved ones around you who smoke you should warn them that the UK swine flu outbreak is much more dangerous to them and quitting smoking could make the difference between life and death should they get it.
