Sales of Tamiflu have increased by almost 50 percent...

The demand for Tamiflu the most effective bird flu drug on the market today continues to surprise us at Ukmedix News. Despite the fact that the Swiss drug company Roche have stepped up production tenfold (if not more), since the first bird flu scares were announced they still are unable to meet the demand. Recently Roche announced its first quarter sales results and they are up by sixteen percent which is in part due to Tamiflu sales. In all sales revenue overall for Roche for the first quarter was almost 9.5 billion U.S. dollars and the announcement caused the shares to rise by over two percent.

Tamiflu Sales Still Rising

Compared to this time last year sales of Tamiflu have increased by almost 50 percent as governments and individuals understand the need to be stocked up with the all important medicine should a pandemic strike. It is likely that by the finish of the year the sales of Tamiflu will approach almost one billion US dollars. The Tamiflu bird flu drug has been a great boost to the profits of Roche and it was originally developed not as a bird flu drug but as a regular influenza drug.

Because of the bird flu scare and subsequent testing which showed that the Tamiflu influenza drug could actually beat the H5N1 bird flu virus, the sales of the drug went through the roof. In order to meet the excessive demand Roche had to partner with other drug companies all over the world and license the production of the Tamiflu drug in order to meet all orders from all parts of the globe.

The World Health Organisation has also been helpful in boosting the sales of the Tamiflu drug after giving it a good recommendation as the best drug form of defence against the deadly bird flu virus. Until a vaccine for H5N1 is developed that can prevent you from getting the bird flu in the first place, the sales of Tamiflu will almost certainly continue to rise.
