Indonesia is the country that has been hit worst by the bird flu virus...

An official announcement from the Indonesian Ministry of Health is that a man of 45 years has died after being infected with the H5N1 bird flu. The Minister of Health said that now the number of people who have sucumbed to the bird flu virus in Indonesia is 78.

Death Number 78 In Indonesia

The man became sick after the chickens that he was looking after at his house became ill and started to die and soon after he was taken to hospital but despite being given the Tamiflu drug he passed away.  It is essential that people who do contract the bird flu virus are given the Tamiflu drug within 2 days of getting the symptoms of the virus.

The Ministry of Health in Indonesia has decided to start distributing special bird flu kits that contain gloves, face masks and special soap to wash hands that will reduce the probability of contracting the virus especially for people who are dealing with birds on a daily basis.  The kits are going to be distributed to the heads of villages all over the country and will also contain information and educational booklets all about the H5N1 bird flu disease.

The government of Indonesia has already forbidden the common practice of rearing chickens and other poultry in the backyards of houses in Jakarta and they had hoped that this initiative would stop people from contracting the disease.  Nevertheless 21 people so far have died from the bird flu virus this year in Indonesia. Indonesia is the country that has been hit worst by the bird flu virus and out of about 180 people who have died from the virus worldwide almost half of them have come from Indonesia.

It is important to stress that the best way to make sure that you do not contract the bird flu virus is not have close contact in confined spaces with sick poultry. While the Tamiflu drug is extremely effective if taken quickly it is not a sure solution to all bird flu infections.
