Tamiflu is a popular drug these day. There is a problem in that people are not using it, they are just hoarding it as it is thought to be the sole drug that can really give the dreaded bird flu a good hit. It is almost impossible to but it in most US cities despite the fact that bird flu hasn't even hit poultry stock in the US yet.
The real problem with this excess demand is that criminals are buying up stocks and profiteering from the lack of supply that this causes. In New York recently immigration officials have found huge amounts of contraband Tamiflu doses. The shipments of Tamiflu are being re routed all over the world to the place that pays the most and this is often the USA. The price has risen to as much as two hundred dollars for box.
Health officials in the US estimate that there is only enough Tamiflu to administer five million US citizens, that represents one person in fifty. Clearly if a pandemic had to strike the US at this point the country would suffer.
The criminals not contect with fuelling the black market economy with real Tamiflu are also making 'generic' Tamiflu. This does not exist and is usually made of nothing more than dust with no active ingredients or compounds. The safest option is not to buy Tamiflu online except if it comes from a licensed pharmacy with a certified prescription from a doctor.
The US health authorities have ordered more supplies of Tamiflu, but not enough to be administered to the whole US population as they are aiming to cover only six percent of it.
