Bird Flu Buddy Plan

Written by Stuart Stevens | Wednesday, 17 January 2007

A new avian flu plan that is likely to be implemented shortly in the United Kingdom and maybe other parts of the world would involve all people nominating a bird flu buddy so that in the event of a proper all out pandemic you will have someone to deliver Tamiflu to you.

The idea is simple but could be very effective and help the overstretched emergency services who will be busy at hospitals with the worst cases. Your bird flu buddy would likely be some member of your family or a close friend who will be then able to collect the Tamiflu from a hospital along with any other medical advice needed and take it straight to your home. This would mean that you would not have to leave your house that would help to contain the spread of the disease.

This plan will not be put into use until the H5N1 bird flu virus is fully mutated and is spreading between humans and not just after a few isolated cases.

The plan also will make use of a bird flu help line that can be called by all men and women who think that they might have the avian flu virus. The help line will be useful also a way of containing the spread of the virus as the patients won’t move about and also doctors won’t need to have actual physical contact with them.

The help line operators on deciding that you have the flu virus will call your bird flu buddy and get him to collect the Tamiflu as soon as possible and get it to you straight away.

All governments are being given to understand by the United Nations that the use of Tamiflu alone will not solve the flu pandemic and that they need to have practical measures to stop the virus spreading from human to human if they really want to succeed.

Estimates say that around one third of all people will get infected by the virus in the UK, if and when the virus mutates properly.
