Huge Mortuaries For Bird Flu Deaths Planned

The people of Scotland are definitely taking the threat of the bird flu virus seriously as new information released under the Freedom of Information Act shows that the Scottish Executive has been discussing plans with a manufacturer of huge tents to be used as temporary mortuaries should the state ones become full up.

The special tents are referred to as “bouncy castle mortuaries” as they can be easily inflated when they are required. They come with special generators that can be started up to make certain that the whole place is cool enough to stop the bodies from decomposing. Each unit which can store around 50 bodies costs about £10,000. The Scottish Executive plans to be in a position where they can handle 64,000 bodies from Scotland. At present Scotland is only able to store just over two and a half thousand bodies at one time and should a bird flu pandemic breakout it is reckoned that far more mortuary space will be needed.
The Scottish Executive plans also note that in order to cope with the huge demand for funerals there will have to be regulations put in place to limit the time of each funeral. Even if crematoriums were to work on a 24 hour basis they still would not be able to dispose of the hundreds of bodies that are likely to accrue should the bird flu virus take hold in Scotland.
The experts also reckon that should the bodies start to pile up around the country it could aggravate the spread of the bird flu virus and also be extremely distressing for relatives and friends who would be unable to cremate or bury the bodies.
Scientists recently found that the bird flu virus is mutating fast and they say that it is just a matter of time when the virus becomes extremely contagious between humans.
