Stories are arriving at the Ukmedix Newsroom about a new bird flu vaccine. The United States Food & Drug Administration has approved the data on the clinical trials of the new vaccine that were compiled by Sanofi Aventis the drug company. The information that Sanofi Aventis sent the FDA was in connection with both the safety and the benefits of the new bird flu vaccine.

Possible Bird Flu Vaccine To Be Approved Soon

An FDA panel that was set up to view all the results of the clinical testing all voted that the vaccine was safe. When it came to the effectiveness of the vaccine they said that with the limited data they had it appeared to work but more testing was required especially its effectiveness with widespread use.

The vaccine differs from Tamiflu the most famous bird flu drug in that it is a vaccine to be given and administered before a pandemic hits rather than when a pandemic hits and you actually get sick.

The FDA usually supports the recommendations made to it by its panel of advisors but and Ukmedix will be watching out to see what the FDA will do now. The decision it takes will have a big impact on the way that the world views the bird flu problem and the responsibility for the FDA is huge. At present there is no fully approved bird flu vaccine available and it would sell billions of pounds worth if it were truly effective.

Ukmedix News feels that more information about how this vaccine works needs to be forthcoming and more testing should be done before it is launched in the open market. Ukmedix will be keeping an eye out for any more updates and tapping our usual sources for more information on this situation.

Until then Tamiflu and Relenza remain the most effective safeguards against a possible bird flu pandemic.
