Swine Flu Facts That You Should Know

It is important not to panic if you start to feel under the weather

There has been a lot of hype about the swine flu virus since it first appeared and while the virus is dangerous and unpleasant it is unlikely to kill you and there are a number of things which you should know about it in order to be swine influenza savvy.

Swine Flu Facts That You Should Know

For example it is important to be aware that only certain groups of people should really worry about getting swine flu. Children under the age of two, people who suffer from heart disease or diabetes, asthmatics and pregnant women should be extra vigilant because statistics show that they are more vulnerable to the symptoms of this particular type of influenza. Teenagers and young adults are also more vulnerable to swine flu.

Normally older people are the ones who suffer most from influenza but this particular swine flu seems to be less of a problem for them and this could be because of immunity due to a similar virus which appeared in the 1950’s. It is important to remember that the death rate from swine flu is particularly low having only killed around 500 out of 1 million Americans who contracted it.

At Ukmedix News we think it is important that people realise that the best defence to keeping safe from the swine flu is washing your hands on a regular basis and staying away from crowded areas where people congregate. Apart from these two things even if you do get the swine influenza virus you can get the medications Tamiflu and Relenza which are recommended by the World Health Organisation as well as by the medical authorities in the United Kingdom as the best way to treat its symptoms.

It is important not to panic if you start to feel under the weather but instead get professional advice from your doctor who can even check to see whether you actually do have the H1N1 swine flu virus.
