The flu season is upon us and all of us need to take precautions! So far there have been no reports of a deadly killer flu in the United Kingdom but scientists all around the world are predicting that sooner rather than later a number of influenza viruses will mutate together and potentially put the world's population in great danger.

There are a number of simple things which you can do every year to massively reduce the chances of you getting any type of influenza virus, whether it is the regular flu, swine flu virus or even the much more deadly bird flu virus. The first thing to do is to take common sense precautions and stay away from people who are coughing and sneezing. Make polite excuses and get out of the room.
The next best thing to do is to wash your hands on a regular basis especially if you have been in an area full of people. For example after having been on the London Underground or in a bus it might be an idea to either wash your hands or have a disinfectant hand cream or gel handy. Maybe getting one for your desk at work and another one for the hallway in your house could drastically reduce the chances of you getting sick this winter.
Medical research shows that people are more likely to get influenza when they are rundown and tired. Simple things like eating healthily and getting good sleep can boost your natural immune system and prevent an influenza virus from getting hold. If you've had a big night out be extra careful!
Getting a flu vaccine shot is also a good idea and something you should discuss with your local GP.
The last thing you can do to boost your defences against an influenza virus is to stock up on antiviral medication like Tamiflu and Relenza. These drugs have been shown in clinical testing to be the best treatment for powerful influenza viruses and will help you to recover much more quickly.
Ignoring all of this advice massively increases the chances of you getting influenza this winter... don't say we didn't warn you!
