A huge survey done to learn about attitudes to plastic surgery has seen that different areas of the UK have different perspectives on it. In all over 5,000 women took part and surprisingly women in Wales were found to be the ones who had the most plastic surgery procedures done with ten percent of them having had some type of cosmetic surgery. At the other end of the scale only two percent of women in the East Midlands underwent plastic surgery.

Another observation was the different parts of the country favoured different types of plastic surgery. For example breast augmentation and reduction was found to be the most popular surgery overall in Scotland, whereas rhinoplasty was much more popular in Wales, London, Yorkshire and the Humber. Northern Ireland was the region where the most facelifts were done and in the East Midlands breast augmentation, breast reduction, rhinoplasty and facelifts were seen to be equal in popularity.
There were a number of different theories as to why different parts of the UK had different demands for plastic surgery and some of the theories even included the idea that different parts of the country has different plastic surgery needs. For example some people speculated that women in Wales had bigger noses and therefore rhinoplasty was more sought after and that big breasts were more prized in some parts of the UK.
Another finding was that women in Wales were the most likely (23%) to recommend that overweight and obese men should have liposuction to remove ‘man boobs’ whereas in other parts of the country this figure was less than half.
Attitudes to plastic surgery are very much influenced by what everybody else is doing. In places like Brazil, Columbia, California and Miami plastic surgery is considered completely normal and not something particularly shocking whereas in certain parts of the UK plastic surgery is thought to be for vain and fickle people. If everybody else is doing it you are likely to follow soon!
The survey done by the organisation OnePoll was paid for by a group of plastic surgeons.

Do you think we are all going to look alike soon? We are all going to have lovely noses, big boobs, flat tummies, slim thighs and legs. Quite a thought!
