Most of the scare stories about plastic surgery tend to involve the more invasive procedures like liposuction or breast augmentation surgery but even though it is pretty rare, more simple procedures like a rhinoplasty operation [nose job] can also be dangerous and even fatal if not carried out properly as the family of Kelly McClure now knows./p>

In the case of Kelly McClure it was stated at her inquest held in Southwark that her antithrombin III deficiency put had great risk of developing thrombosis and that she suffered a heart attack and brain damage on the operating table. Despite the emergency team wanting to take her straight to Accident and Emergency, her plastic surgeons believed that she was OK and therefore spent another 45 minutes putting finishing touches to her nose.

The surgeons Edward Latimer-Sayer and Dr Ahmed el Sayed Moustafa were accused of keeping the 31 year-old woman on the operating table despite the obvious complications. The operation which was carried out at the Belvedere Hospital in Kent resulted in the patient dying six months later.

Probably the best thing to remember is that when you undergo many plastic surgery operations you are required to have a general anesthetic, and this always comes with considerable health risks. Just because it is a simple procedure like rearranging your nose does not mean that you should be reckless in choosing your plastic surgeon and you should be wary of cheap prices and glossy brochures and instead focus more on clinical qualifications and a proven track record.

You should ask about emergency procedures as well as discuss possible allergies or health problems you might have. It seems so unfair that this woman has lost her life for something as simple as having her nose rearranged.

This is frightening, however as a child and later as a teenager I always heard that the triangle surounding the nose was very dangereous as it could get easily infected as it had thousands of little veins...surely the surgeon who operated knew this.
