Tough action has been taken against a South Florida plastic surgeon who was involved in a liposuction operation which ended up with the death of a woman. Doctor Omar Brito Marin was accused of giving the patient too much anesthetic as well as not having the right qualifications to perform liposuction operations.

Ms. Rohie Kah-Orukotan who was 37 died three weeks after having the liposuction operation at the Weston MedSpa in September 2009. Her husband had made a public statement saying that the doctors should be struck off after his wife was declared brain dead after the operation.
The Florida State Surgeon General Ms. Ana Viamonte Ros released a statement saying that Dr Omar Brito Marin had operated with “bad judgment and disregard for the health and welfare” of Ms. Rohie Kah-Orukotan. The lawyer Michael Freedland acting for her family said that it was obvious that something went “horribly wrong”. He said that they advertised the procedure as being simple yet she came out of the operation brain dead. Dr. Omar Brito Marin speaking through his lawyer said the all the medications given to the woman were in line with proper legal limits according to Florida law.
Whatever happened it is important that individuals realise that liposuction involves the use of powerful anesthetics and this comes with plenty of health risks. Glossy brochures showing smiling surgeons and beautiful clinics tend to lull liposuction patients into a false sense of security about the implications of this very invasive procedure.
You should know exactly what anesthetics are going to be given to you and also whether you have any allergies to any of them. A proper medical checkup should be done before undergoing any operations and be careful of pushy doctors and plastic surgeons who are more interested in your money than your health.
