Ukmedix has learnt of a health warning from the Director General of Health in New Zealand regarding the sale of a certain weight loss remedy. The product called Reduce Weight on being tested by the relevant medical authorities was found to contain a drug called sibutramine that is only licenced for sale in a drug called Reductil or Meridia as it is known in the United States.
The drug sibutramine is a prescription only drug that is dangerous if taken in too high doses and could even cause death in certain people who have heart conditions. The sale of sibutramine as a herbal product is highly illegal and all the stocks of the drug in New Zealand have been confiscated. The packaging of the weight loss remedy appears to have originated in China.
The sibutramine in the Reductil drug can increase blood pressure and quicken the heart rate and is contraindicated in many people and that is why a doctors prescription and check up is so important before using it. It must not be used with some other medications and this was not made clear in the packaging and labelling of the Reduce Weight. People who suffer from pyschological problems are also advised not to use Reductil.
The authorities in New Zealand feel that it is possible that other herbal remedy shops in other countries may be unknowingly selling this drug and it may also be for sale online from spammers. If you see the product Reduce Weight anywhere for sale the relevant authorities should be notified and if you are using or have taken some Reduce Weight in the past a check up is advisable.
Reductil is sold as an appetite surpressant and is for use in people who suffer from obesity and who have trouble in controlling the urge to eat. The selling of illegal drugs is a serious offence in New Zealand and can get you a prison sentence and a hefty fine.
