Health Canada Warning On Illegal Use Of Sibutramine

Written by Stuart Stevens | Friday, 07 April 2006

The medical health authority in Canada, Health Canada has sent out a warning to dieters that they mustn't take 2 particular herbal weight loss supplements that come from China because they have been tested and they contained sibutramine. Sibutramine, is a compound that is found in Reductil, a prescription only medicine that can be taken with consent and regular check ups from your doctor. Sibutramine in unregulated diet supplements can have harmful consequences to health.

Sibutramine works as an appetite surpressant and is the acting compound in Reductil (or Meridia as it is called in America), and great care is needed with its use. Reductil is safe when used properly and has full FDA as well as EU health authority approval, however improper use of sibutramine may cause the heart beat rate to increase along with blood pressure. Patients have also reported an increase in pressure behind the eyes and in severe cases hemorrhaging. Reductil is not allowed for use in people with coronary heart problems or circulation difficulties. Reductil can also react with certain other medicines, for example certain anti-depressants.

The two products are LiDa Daidaihua Slimming Capsules and Super Fat Burning Pills. They are not licenced for sale in Canada, however unsuspecting people buy them when abroad for themselves or they buy them online. Health Canada is advising people who have taken these tablets to stop using them immediately and get a medical check up to be safe.
