Almost 500 adolescents took part in this study and the results were encouraging.

Ukmedix News has seen research undertaken with the Reductil weight loss medication on obese adolescents recently in America. Reductil is not allowed to be prescribed to individuals under the age of 18 normally but special exemptions were obtained for this weight-loss study. According to the results Reductil can actually lower blood pressure and the pulse rate in adolescents which is in fact the opposite effect that it normally produces in adults.

Reductil Tested On Adolescents

Dr. Stephen Daniels from the University of Colorado Medicine School based in Denver said that even though the initial study was a small one it was interesting to note that the cardiovascular effects of Reductil with adolescents was very small. Dr Daniels said that it would be definitely worth conducting larger scale studies with Reductil and obese adolescents.

In American where there are growing numbers of seriously overweight children some medical circles are calling for the Reductil until weight-loss medication to be allowed to be prescribed to kids under the age of eighteen in serious cases. On the other side of the argument people argue that if children are given access to weight loss medications at an early age they could encourage an unhealthy psychological dependence on them which may stay with them all of their adult lives.

Almost 500 adolescents took part in this study and the results were encouraging. At the beginning of the study the average body mass index figure for the participants was around 36.  After a year of using the Reductil weight-loss drug the average body mass index number had dropped by almost 3 on average to around 33. The study was placebo-controlled and it was noted that those adolescents who were given the placebo pill only reported an average 0.3 point drop in BMI.

Reductil works as an appetite suppressant and is considered to be one of the most effective weight loss medications on the market today. Reductil is a prescription medication and must not be used by people who have heart problems as it can cause high blood pressure in some cases.
