UK Medix only dispenses the genuine Abbott Reductil.
Once you have received your Reductil, whether its from the internet, a slimming clinic or even your local GP, UK Medix recommend that you follow a few simple steps to verify that it is the genuine stuff. This will enable you to fully determine whether the Reductil actually works for you and how far the benefits will go.
To avoid confusion, UK Medix would like to point out that Reductil is also known as Meridia in some countries, namely the United States and South America. These are different names for the same medication and both are manufactured by Abbott Laboratories with exactly the same ingredients.
Reductil / Meridia is a very successful medication worldwide in the treatment of obesity and therefore it is inevitably going to have a lot of counterfeit copies circulating, as such is society today! UK Medix has therefore put together a few tips with things to look out for to determine whether your Reductil is the genuine Abbott medicine or not.
1. Pharmacy is licensed and based in the UK
At UK medix we have heard many accounts of people ordering from websites who have their pharmacies based abroad. The stories we have heard have enabled us to accumulate 3 basic facts around which most of the horror stories are based:
a) Its Fake! Most of the fake / generic Reductil will come from abroad as their restrictions are looser there and here in the UK, licensed pharmacies are under strict regulation.
b) Customs! You will probably be likely for duty / hefty fines at customs when the medicines enter the country.
c) Delays! The Reductil takes ages to arrive.
2. Labelled Medication
Your medication should be labelled with your name as the patient, and other details including contact details of the pharmacy that dispensed it.
3. Correct packaging
The Reductil you receive should arrive in the packaging as shown below in figure A, with batch number and manufacturers details. (If you are in the US and have ordered Meridia it may arrive looking like Figure B – but please note that no UK Reductil should arrive in bottles).
There is NO excuse for medications arriving in plastic or paper bags or even unmarked pill bottles. In these cases, Uk Medix would recommend that you do not take these medications, return them (if you can!) or take them to your local pharmacist for destruction in the correct manner.
4. Pill identity.
Now unfortunately UK Medix have learnt that some of the fraudsters have even managed to disguise the packaging so that the fake medications will have packaging that looks pretty similar to the genuine Abbott Reductil. In these cases, even identifying the packaging may not help you determine the authenticity of your medication.
UK Medix would therefore recommend that you study your pills. They should be capsules and look like those shown in Figure C, note that they are labelled as Reductil and are different in colour dependant on the strength.

Now, if you have gone through all of the 4 steps above and you are still unsure of the authenticity of your medication, Uk Medix recommend that you call up Abbott Laboratories with the batch number of your medication (located on the packaging) and they will be able to verify the batch for you.
UK Medix only dispatch the real Abbott Reductil to our patients, prescribed by our own UK based doctors and dispensed from our UK based pharmacies.
