Two prestigious medical institutions in the United States, namely the American Society of Clinical Oncology and American Urological Association have issued statements confirming that the use of finasteride, (which is the key ingredient in the hair loss drug Propecia) can reduce the likelihood of men suffering from cancer of the prostate by as much as 25%.

They said that millions of men over the age of 55 should consider using finasteride to lower the chances of them suffering from this potentially fatal illness. They explained that even men who regularly were screened for cancer of the prostate should discuss with a doctor whether they should use the finasteride drugs. The side effects of hair growth should be considered to be an added bonus.
Worldwide, cancer of the prostate is the second most probable cancer for men to be diagnosed with and it kills as many as one quarter of a million of men annually. By using the finasteride drug as a preventative medication it could save millions in health care costs as well as save thousands of lives.
If men do start to use finasteride to lower their chances of getting prostate cancer we are going to see far more middle aged men with new hair growth suddenly appearing. The finasteride drug which was originally manufactured and marketed by the drug company Merck to treat an enlarged prostate surprised doctors and patients alike when men who had resigned themselves to their male pattern baldness suddenly started to experience hair regrowth. Like all the world’s best discoveries the hair restoration effects of the finasteride drug were discovered completely accidentally.
The prescription hair loss drug Propecia is now the world’s best selling hair loss remedy which is used by millions of men with good results. Propecia has also undergone more clinical testing than any other hair loss remedy.
