24% said that they knew more about impotence than menopause

For the last decade or so since the arrival of the erectile dysfunction drug Viagra and its cousins Cialis and Levitra there has been so much written about male sexual problems that practically everybody knows exactly what causes impotence and how it can be remedied. The same can definitely not be said about female sexual problems!

women get more info on impotence than menopause

For example a new study done by an organization called OWL, The Voice of Midlife and Older Women claims that almost 70% of women between the ages of 30 and 44 do not have a good knowledge of menopause, its symptoms and what it entails for them. Twenty four percent of the women said that they knew more about erectile dysfunction than they did about menopause.

Bobbie Brinegar the Executive Director of OWL said that much more information needed to be put out there so that the mysteries and myths surrounding menopause could be put to rest. Menopause is still very much a taboo subject in the same way that erectile dysfunction used to be before public health campaigns financed by the manufacturers of Viagra, Cialis and Levitra which explained that in a majority of cases impotence was just a blood flow problem which could usually be easily remedied.

Getting information about menopause can be a great relief for women who do not fully understand what is happening to their bodies. For example many women didn't realize that weight gain is a very common symptom of menopause as is vaginal dryness and even insomnia.

It is also possible to get medications to alleviate the symptoms of menopause such as Intrinsa which can boost sexual desire and sexual function in post menopausal women. As with male sexual problems, information and communication is always the answer!

By getting women to come forward and talk about what they are experiencing and getting information to younger women about what exactly they should expect to happen when they go through menopause is vital if this completely normal and natural but nevertheless distressing process is to be dealt with in the best way.

Good! I hope we will be seeing more info about menopause in the future articles. Why wait until you are going through it to find out more about it, I am 29 and I would like to know more.
