A new medication which could be a serious rival for the female sexual dysfunction drug Intrinsa is being tested in America. Researchers at the University of Virginia said that the product could end up being another female Viagra. In fact it seems that the new product called LibiGel works in the same way that Intrinsa works but the application will be different. LibiGel is an ointment which contains testosterone which is also the active ingredient of Intrinsa.

Researchers have shown that women who suffer from low levels of sexual desire are often lacking in the testosterone hormone which is traditionally associated with men. Not everyone knows that in order for a woman to have a healthy sexual appetite she must also have certain levels of testosterone in her blood stream. The new female sexual dysfunction ointment is being developed by a company called BioSante Pharmaceuticals and they hope that the tests on women which are being done at 100 different establishments will show that the LibiGel is both safe and effective.
Female sexual dysfunction affects millions of women around the world and it is estimated that around 30 percent of all women in America suffer from some form of the condition. Female sexual dysfunction is far more difficult to treat than the majority of erectile dysfunction as it tends to involve complicated emotional and hormonal factors.
Ukmedix News will be keeping an eye out for any further developments on the research done with this new product LibiGel. It is unlikely to be sold in the United Kingdom for a number of years as it will require further testing by the European medical authorities before it can be sold in Europe. Intrinsa is the only medically approved medication for female sexual dysfunction in the United Kingdom at present.
