Good news for the Korean pharmaceutical giant Dong-A PharmTech Company Limited is that its little known erectile dysfunction remedy Zydena has been given full approval from the Ministry of Health in Russia for marketing and sale in the country. Dong-A PharmTech has teamed up with Valenta Pharmaceuticals a Russian company with an established market profile and will be launching the Zydena erectile dysfunction drug later on in 2008.

Zydena has been for sale for some years in South Korea and has obtained regulatory approval in a number of countries around the world but has yet to be approved in either the United Kingdom, any European countries or in America. Zydena goes by the medical name udenafil which shows that it is one of the family of PDE-5 inhibitors with Viagra, Cialis and Levitra. Dong-A PharmTech claim that the advantage of Zydena is that it has fewer side effects than its potential rivals.
Zydena is perfect for the Russian market because it will be able to be sold for much less than Viagra, Cialis and Levitra which will make it appealing to the lower income segment of the Russian population which struggles to be able to buy the more expensive imported erectile dysfunction medications.
The future for the Zydena drug looks good and Dong-A PharmTech has established patents in over 30 countries worldwide. Zydena is undergoing clinical testing in America for approval there and is also being developed as a medication to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia, (swollen prostate) as well as pulmonary arterial hypertension.
Zydena has been on the market in South Korea since the end of 2005 and now has almost one quarter of the local erectile dysfunction market. Nevertheless Viagra, despite being the most expensive erectile dysfunction medication still has a number one place in South Korea. Cialis takes third place in South Korea with a 23 percent share of the market.
