Viagra at high altitudes could help the body absorb oxygen better

After all the fuss generated at the Beijing 2008 Olympics regarding speculation that some athletes were using the erectile dysfunction medication Viagra to improve their performance in their respective sports, the World Anti-Doping Agency has commissioned a study to conclusively examine whether there is some truth to the allegations.

World Anti Doping Agency Studying Viagra Research

Researchers from Marywood University have presented research to the World Anti Doping Agency, and Kenneth Rundle from the Respiratory Research and Human Physiology Lab at the university said that there was some evidence to show that using Viagra at high altitudes could help the body absorb oxygen better, but was generally tight lipped about the results of the research.

The World Anti-Doping Agency will be looking at the research done by Marywood University sometime this year to determine whether to put Viagra and its cousins Cialis and Levitra on the 2010 List of Prohibited Substances and Methods.

Tufts University has also initiated research on the link between Viagra and athletic performance and if it is shown to have a positive effect it could open up new avenues of research to help people who suffer from respiratory diseases or for health workers, mountaineers and soldiers for example who work in dangerously high altitudes.

There has been speculation that the use of these erectile dysfunction medications is rife in all professional sports and that something needs to be done. The World Anti-Doping Agency may ban the use of Viagra completely in which case athletes who suffer from erectile dysfunction will have to make a choice between their professional sports or the ability to perform well in the bedroom. This obviously will be a difficult choice for them to make and could cause an uproar in the sporting world.

Ukmedix News will be keeping in touch with the World Anti Doping Agency for any new updates regarding impotence drugs.
