take precautions no matter what your age is

More evidence that older men and women are suffering from the sexually transmitted HIV disease has come to light following a report issued by the World Health Organisation recently. The report which was published in the WHO Bulletin claims that because of the greatly increased numbers of sexually active adults over the age of 50, many of whom do not use condoms the number of sexually transmitted diseases such as the AIDS virus are on the rise.

Another concern put forward by the report was that doctors are failing to properly diagnose HIV in older men and women because they do not reckon that their lifestyles expose them to the risk of this sort of infection. Doctors believe that since most HIV patients are younger it is extremely unlikely for older adults to contract the virus, however things are changing as more and more of them are using Viagra, Cialis and Levitra. The report recommended that doctors do not discriminate against young and old patients when it comes to screening for the HIV virus.

The report also spoke about how older men who were having sex with post menopausal women were far more likely to refrain from using condoms because they knew the risk of pregnancy was nil. The report which was authored by both the Minnesota St. Olaf College and the World Health Organisation produced statistics that show that in the European Union 8% of new HIV cases involve adults over the age of fifty and in the United States the percentage is 11%.

The report also noted that older people who get AIDS are more likely to quickly progress to full blown HIV because of their age and also because doctors are less likely to give them antiretroviral drugs quickly. Whatever the case it is important that anyone using erectile dysfunction medication takes precautions no matter what their age is. Impotence medication may restore your sexual function but it will not make you immune to sexually transmitted disease. The report commented that despite advances made with treating HIV if you get it after you are 65 years old your life expectancy would only be about four years.
