Ukmedix News has been following the extensive media reports that the humble watermelon could have a significant effect on erectile function and help men to not only improve their sexual performance but even their sexual desire.

Watermelon Could Boost Erectile Function Hmmmm

According to Dr. Bhimu Patil who works for the A&M’s Fruit and Vegetable Improvement Centre in Texas, USA the watermelon has amazing natural enhancers to improve your health overall, as well as specific compounds in it which can relax blood vessels in the same way that the erectile dysfunction drugs Viagra, Cialis and Levitra do.

Hmm, we took this story with a pinch of salt when we saw this at Ukmedix News for a number of reasons. Firstly practically every single week a food manufacturer comes up with the claim that they have discovered a new natural Viagra or that their product can really increase libido. In this case the A&M Fruit and Vegetable Improvement Centre has received more publicity than it could possibly hope for by the release of this story which is being picked up by a number of news agencies around the world.

According to Dr. Patil three key compounds which are found in watermelons namely lycopene, beta carotene and citrulline work like Viagra. However these ingredients are mainly found in the rind of the fruit and not in the main part so unless you plan on eating this part of the watermelon don’t expect any results. In fact we would go far to say that even if you did eat the outside part of the watermelon it wouldn’t have any significant effect on your erectile function.

The eating of fruit is extremely healthy and it has been shown men who consume large amounts of fruit have better erectile function but this is not because fruit or watermelons actually directly boost erectile function but purely because fruit is good for health overall and that men who are healthy have better erectile function. Ukmedix News can recall an incident when the supermarket chain Tesco announced that it was importing “super berries” which had such high levels of antioxidants in them and that they could promote better erections. Hmmm…
