provide a serious competitive threat to Viagra

The Dong-A PharmTech Company based in South Korea which produces a drug similar to Viagra called Zydena has teamed up with an American pharmaceutical company called Warner Chilcott Ltd to facilitate the sale and marketing of its impotence drug in America.

Warner Chilcott To Sell Zydena Impotence Drug

Zydena which has not yet received full approval from the Food & Drug Administration in America works in exactly the same way as Viagra does by being a PDE-5 inhibitor and has a similar chemical structure. Zydena’s active ingredient is called udenafil as opposed to Viagra’s sildenafil. Warner Chilcott which is based in New Jersey did not give out too many details of the deal other than to say that it had complete United States’ rights to the Zydena erectile dysfunction drug.

The Zydena drug has been for sale in South Korea since it was approved by health authorities there in 2005 and has recently been approved in Russia where initial reports say it is selling well and has been received positively by both doctors and patients.

One of the advantages of Zydena is that it can be produced for much less than Viagra, Cialis and Levitra and therefore will be the cheapest erectile dysfunction drug on the market when it is launched in America.  This could give it considerable market share and provide a serious competitive threat to Viagra which has always maintained the top spot as the best selling erectile dysfunction drug in the world.

Zydena is unlikely to face any objections or problems from the Food & Drug Administration as the clinical trials are progressing well and only phase three testing is now required. Zydena is not available for sale in the United Kingdom or in Europe yet but the Dong-A PharmTech Company say that they have been speaking to various companies with an eye to launching it over here.
