Viagra Spider Venom Research Continues

the doctored version of the venom they named Tx2-6

New research which could soon lead to a completely new and novel erectile dysfunction treatment is being undertaken by American and Brazilian researchers. What makes their research so fascinating is that it involves the use of the venom of a lethal Brazilian spider known as the Brazilian wandering spider or to give it its Latin name Phoneutria nigriventer.

Viagra Spider Venom Research Continues

Actually we have written before at Ukmedix News about the incredible phenomenon of men reporting unwanted and sometimes very painful erections when receiving a bite from this spider but it now appears that researchers are beginning to take it seriously.

They have identified the active ingredient of the spider venom and have been using a purified version of it on lab rats that were suffering from hypertension and erectile dysfunction. They said that the doctored version of the venom which they named Tx2-6 was instrumental in producing higher levels of naturally occurring nitric oxide in the penile arteries which in turn produced erections in the rats.

The head of this research project Professor Kenia Pedrosa Nunes working at the Medical College of Georgia explained that in her native Brazil the spiders were extremely dangerous causing a number of deaths every year, but she hoped that she and her research team would be able to come up with a pharmacological remedy which would be able to be used by men who were not able to use Viagra, Cialis or Levitra.

Professor Nunes also explained that while the drugs Viagra, Cialis and Levitra like the spider venom Tx2-6 were also responsible for increased levels of the all important nitric oxide, the mechanisms were different and thus they could help men who suffer adversely from the side effects of these three existing impotence drugs.

The research was presented to a conference organised by the American Heart Association in Chicago.

What has the American Heart Association say about it?
