Viagra Could Give Cyclists That Extra Boost

Viagra chould be put on the register of banned drugs for sportsmen

On a number of occasions Ukmedix News has written about the fact that the erectile dysfunction drug Viagra has been used by mountaineers and other people who undertake sports at high altitude because it appears to open up blood vessels which allow oxygen to be more easily absorbed into the body. This means that by using Viagra some individuals can improve their fitness and stamina when the oxygen is thin.

Viagra Could Give Cyclists That Extra Boost

A recent study by scientists and researchers at the University of Miami has been looking into whether the use of the Viagra drugs can better the performance of cyclists who ride at high altitudes. The study is being taken very seriously by the scientists because it is being funded by the World Anti-Doping Agency who are keen to establish whether Viagra should be put on the register of banned drugs for sportsmen.

There has been a lot of gossip about Viagra and its effect on sportsman especially after the Italian police when searching the car of professional cyclist Andrea Moletta found in excess of 80 Viagra tablets. He had been participating in the Giro d'Italia and it is thought that he used the tablets to improve his performance. Funnily enough however cycling is known to cause erectile dysfunction because the uncomfortable bike seats puts pressure on the penile artery which prevents blood flow. Cyclists using Viagra therefore would not have this problem.

The results of the study have not been established however Ukmedix News will be the first to report whether Viagra really does have a performance effect on cyclists and whether the drug will be added to the list of banned medications for sportsmen. Any sportsman who suffers from erectile dysfunction now will have a problem using Viagra, (or Cialis and Levitra) and there are bound to be howls of protest if the World Anti-Doping Agency actually goes ahead and bans it.

Another word of caution is that cyclists should be extremely careful of using Viagra especially if they are wearing tight cycling shorts. While Viagra does not produce involuntary erections it does mean that any sexual thoughts will produce an erection far quicker than expected, which could be extremely embarrassing!!
