According to Professor Martin Holt who works at the National Centre in HIV Social Research in Australia, men need to be more careful when they use drugs such as Viagra, Cialis and Levitra for recreational use to enhance sexual function.

A study conducted by Professor Holt and which was written up in a research paper involved interviews with 31 gay men who were regular users of Viagra and other erectile dysfunction drugs. There is a concern that Viagra allows men who previously would have been unable to perform sexually because of the use of alcohol and other drugs to engage in potentially risky sexual acts. The alcohol and other drugs remove inhibitions and make the men take bigger risks than they would normally and therefore Viagra, Cialis and Levitra have been pinpointed as one of the reasons why the spread of AIDS is increasing in certain circles.
There is other research that suggests however that Viagra can actually increase the chances of men using condoms because it allows better sexual function which is sometimes diminished by the use of these contraceptives. Professor Holt explained that it was now becoming a common idea that Viagra actually increased the chances of safe sex taking place when in fact it was likely that the opposite applied.
Professor Holt also pointed out that gay men were mixing Viagra with dangerous drugs such as amyl and poppers that are known to cause sudden and potentially fatal blood pressure drops.
There is no doubt that the use of Viagra when you are in an intoxicated state can lead you to make poor decisions and possibly get yourself into trouble by contracting a sexually transmitted disease. The importance of safe sex when using Viagra especially in a promiscuous and homosexual environment cannot be emphasized more strongly.
