Peyronie's Disease, A Rare Type Of Impotence

There are some doctors who specialise in treating Peyronie’s disease

The largest cause of impotence is a simple blood flow problem into the penile artery. Many people associate impotence with lack of virility, sexual prowess and psychological problems but in fact in over 90 percent of cases weak arteries caused by unhealthy living or ageing are the real problem. The reason why the impotence medications Viagra, Cialis and Levitra have been so successful with treating men who suffer from erection problems is that they deal directly with the biggest cause namely the blood flow problem.

Peyronie

Around ten percent of erectile dysfunction problems are in fact not physical but psychological. Sometimes men have a problem with erections due to feelings of inadequacy, stress or guilt. These problems are usually fairly easy to remedy and can be done with professional counselling, or even in simple cases a hot relaxing bath. Psychological sexual problems can get worse if they are not treated early on as they get compounded by recurrent failing sexual encounters.

Probably the most unusual cases of erectile dysfunction concerns a disease called Peyronie’s. This extremely rare condition occurs when men start to suffer from a curvature of the penis which is accentuated when it is erect. This condition is obviously extremely distressing and can cause painful erections and therefore painful sexual intercourse.

Some health professionals estimate that as many as 80,000 men could be suffering from Peyronie’s disease in the United Kingdom, many of them silently and too embarrassed to come forward to get proper medical help. Peyronie’s disease occurs when scar tissue builds up in the penis which undermines the symmetry in the chambers which fill up with blood when a man is aroused sexually. The scar tissue is thought to be created either when the penis has suffered from some injury or it is possible that it is connected with autoimmune disorders. One research project found that men suffering Peyronie’s disease had a much higher likelihood of having abnormal immunologic results when tested.

Peyronie’s disease sounds very serious but it is in fact able to be treated in the majority of cases and all it requires from you as a sufferer is the courage to come forward and speak to a doctor. There are some doctors who specialise in treating Peyronie’s disease and who would have seen literally hundreds of cases and therefore you have nothing to be embarrassed about.
