Research done in South Korea has examined the effectiveness of a PDE5 inhibitor along with medicine used to reduce blood pressure. The drug company that produces Zydena, which is a new erectile dysfunction medication similar to Viagra, Cialis and Levitra were keen to see whether the vasodilating properties of PDE5 inhibitors would have any negative effects on the treatment of men suffering from erectile dysfunction and who were also using medications to treat their hypertension.

The clinical trial which was done in a number of locations using a double blind randomised placebo-controlled and fixed dose format looked at 165 men who were already using medicine for hypertension. The results of the study were evaluated using the International Index of Erectile Function, the Sexual Encounter Profile diary and also the Global Assessment Question all of which are designed to give an accurate measure of sexual function and ability.
From a safety point of view there was no difference between the placebo group and the group who were given the real drug Zydena with both groups reporting the usual mild side effects in more or less the same frequency. With regard to effectiveness, as expected those men who were given the Zydena reported significantly better scores in all of the different methods of evaluation.
There have been concerns that the use of hypertension medication along with erectile dysfunction medication could be dangerous however this study seem to show that this is not the case. Nevertheless if you’re using hypertension medication you should always inform your doctor before you get a prescription for Viagra, Cialis or Levitra of any other medication to treat any other condition. Certain medications such as nitrates have been shown to interact with Viagra, Cialis and Levitra and reduce blood pressure to dangerous levels and therefore full disclosure to your doctor is essential.
The research was conducted by the Seoul National University Hospital by their Department of Urology.
