One In Three Elderly People Are Doing It In Seoul

Surveys into sexual activity are notoriously inaccurate

A survey into sexual activity in the capital of South Korea, Seoul shows that many elderly people are still at it! The survey results show that almost 30 percent of senior citizens over the age of 65 had sex at least once monthly and over 40 percent said that they had sex twice a month. Most of the men and women had sex with their husbands and wives or long term partners and almost twenty percent made use of erectile dysfunction medications like Viagra, Cialis or Levitra.

Surveys into sexual activity are notoriously inaccurate because men and women are rarely completely honest about their answers. Men tend to overstate sexual activity and understate sexual problems whereas women understate sexual activity and are embarrassed to admit to really enjoying sex. Nevertheless this survey showed that sexual activity among the elderly is still strong and the drugs Viagra, Cialis and Levitra as well as changing attitudes to sex in old age are largely responsible for it.

Kang Byoung-ho from the Seoul Metropolitan Government explained that as life expectancy had increased over the last few decades there were far more senior citizens in good health.  He stressed that there was a concern that many of the elderly citizens were not taking proper precautions and this could lead to STD’s. Over ten percent of the senior citizens admitted to having been infected with an STD which tended to come from sex with prostitutes.

This study which was done as a joint project between the University of Seoul and the Seoul Metropolitan Government should lead to special sex education programs for the elderly.  At Ukmedix News we have written on many occasions about the importance of elderly people practicing safe sex and being responsible with the use of Viagra, Cialis and Levitra.
