If you are over 50 and you use the drugs Viagra, Cialis or Levitra a word of warning is that you should not over exert yourself when you are lovemaking and remember that vigorous sexual activity increases the heart rate considerably.

Older men sometimes forget their physical limits and it is not unheard of for men to have heart attacks while having sex. In some countries where it is a possible to go to special hourly rate hotels for sexual encounters the number of older men who die when “on the job”, has supposedly risen. There are no hard facts and figures as most cases are discreetly taken care of but many of these hotel owners say that the main culprit is the arrival of the Viagra drug.

This does not mean that the Viagra itself is causing heart attacks, (some research even suggests that it prevents heart attacks), but there is evidence that because older men are able to sustain erectile function far better than their years would normally allow they exert themselves too hard and this causes them to either suffer a heart attack or just to pass out.

In many cases the dead men are found all alone because if the relationship is clandestine the woman (or even the man!) involved makes a dash for it so they don’t have to explain themselves to the authorities or to the wife/girlfriend.

Your heart rate should never exceed 220 beats per minute minus your age. So for example if you are 70 years old your heartbeat shouldn’t rise above 150 beats a minute.
