The British Journal of Urology has published the results of a recent clinical test to check the safety and effectiveness of a new spray designed to help men suffering from premature ejaculation. Three hundred men who suffer from the embarrassing condition were split into two different groups. One of the groups with 200 men were given the real spray and another hundred were given a placebo spray.

The men receiving the real spray reported that sex was much better when using it and said that it could make them last as much as six times longer before they ejaculated. The spray which is designed to be applied five minutes before sexual intercourse helped men who suffered badly from premature ejaculation have sex for up to four minutes before ejaculating.
The control group who received a spray without the active ingredients only reported a slight improvement in ejaculation times which is probably down to a placebo effect. All of the men were asked to record how long they lasted using a stopwatch.
The spray which is called the PSD502 spray was overall very well received by the treatment group and Professor Wallace Dinsmore from the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast explained that it helped men to enjoy sex much more than they previously had. Premature ejaculation can almost be as distressing as erectile dysfunction because it leads to tension and avoidance of sexual situations for fear of embarrassment and humiliation. Professor Dinsmore commented that as many as 40 percent of all men would have episodes of premature ejaculation at some point of their lives.
The men who took this new spray commented that they also had more control and satisfaction with sexual intercourse and thus did not suffer as much from the distress and awkwardness that comes with premature ejaculation.
This treatment which is not yet available commercially will need to be subjected to more clinical testing before it is able to be prescribed by doctors.
