More evidence that losing weight and getting exercise is a natural form of Viagra has been released by the Journal of Sexual Medicine which recently published a new Australian study into the link between erectile function and obesity. The small study which only examined 31 men saw that obese men with diabetes who lost between five and ten percent of their body weight over two months had significantly improved erectile function. Interestingly it also boosted their sex desire which is distinct from actual erectile function.

Being obese impacts negatively on erectile function in many different ways. Being overweight can reduce levels of testosterone in the blood, interfere with the process of pumping blood to the penile artery and even damage blood vessels. If your obesity causes you to become diabetic you are likely to have even more severe erectile dysfunction problems because of the damage [sometimes irreversible] that diabetes does to blood vessels.
A simple test to see whether your weight problem is affecting your sexual function is to stand up straight naked and to see whether you can see your penis. If you can't see it you should be doing something about losing weight.
There is loads of evidence out there to show that men who work out and keep themselves in shape as they get older will be able to carry on having sex into their golden years without the use of Viagra, Cialis or Levitra. You can never completely escape from diminishing erectile function as you age but keeping fit means that you'll just be able to use prescription erectile dysfunction drugs to give you a little bit of help in the bedroom rather than being completely reliant on them.
Doctors say that when they try and encourage men to lose weight it is no good talking about things like heart health, cancer and other obesity related illnesses because they just don't listen. However when they mention being able to improve erections and have more sex the men really seem to be listening hard and actually are motivated to do something about their weight!
