More Medicines Lead To More Impotence

for long term erectile health reducing your medicine intake could help.

Men take medicines to improve their health however according to a new study the more medication that they take the more likely they are to suffer from erectile dysfunction!

more medicines lead to more impotence

The study which was done by a team of researchers from a medical organisation in America called Kaiser Permanente noted that those men who took many different medications tended to significantly increase the chances of also suffering from impotence. In all the medical records of almost 38,000 men were examined as part of the California Mens Health Study and it was noted that 57% of them regularly used over three different medications.

When the clinical data was analysed it was observed that for those men who used to up to two different medications the likelihood of erectile dysfunction was 15.9% whereas those men using three to five medicines had a 19.7% chance of erectile dysfunction. When more than five medicines were used the rate went up to 25.5% and for those men using ten or more medicines it went up to 30.9%. The researchers took into consideration other factors like age, hypertension, diabetes and smoking for example which could have altered the results but still concluded that the simple act of taking more medications increased the risk of impotence.

This research which was published by the British Journal of Urology is interesting because despite the fact that many of the medications prescribed are to treat health conditions which could in themselves cause erectile dysfunction, the overall conclusion was that for long term erectile health reducing your medicine intake could help.

It should also be born in mind that many medicines such as antidepressants are known to have very specific adverse effects on erectile function. Is important that when you speak to a doctor about any sexual problems that you may be having that you tell him or her about any other medicines you are using. Changing your medication or reducing the dose could have a positive impact on your erectile function and could also mean that you do not need a prescription for either Viagra, Cialis or Levitra.
