The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency have been congratulating themselves recently after successfully prosecuting a man who imported a large quantity of fake and possibly dangerous erectile dysfunction medication into the United Kingdom.

Mr. Gwyn Edge Evans from Wales organised the importation of the fake Viagra tablets from India with the intention of selling them without issuing prescriptions. This is illegal under the 1968 Medicines Act and it is thought that he avoided jail by pleading guilty at an early point in court procedures.
When investigators from the MHRA inspected the offices of Mr. Evans’s company they found not only fake versions of Viagra but also fake Cialis as well as a whole list of other illegal drugs which are used for weight loss and pain relief. In all over 90,000 individual tablets were impounded by the MHRA and a further 65,000 tablets were confiscated at Stansted Airport. In all it is estimated that the company dealt with almost half a million tablets between the months of May 2005 and February 2006.
In view of the fact that if Mr. Evans processed so much illegal medication he is extremely lucky to have got off with a fine of £4,000. Mr. Michael Deats, Manager of Enforcement from the MHRA welcomed the verdict and said that it was right that individuals who broke the law and who endangered the public by issuing these medicines were punished.
Ukmedix News has warned previously that just because medication appears to originate from the United Kingdom does not mean that it is safe and that unless a prescription is issued from a doctor based in the UK the medicine being purchased is almost certainly fake, and therefore you increase greatly the chances of health complications due to poor standards of manufacture.
At Ukmedix it is possible to verify the physical location of the dispensing pharmacy in order to give you peace of mind that your medication is legal, genuine and safe. This can be done by using the Pharmacheck system.
