endured an erection that lasted for a whopping 21 days!

A report from the Times of India claims that a man who suffered from an extended bout of Priapism could now be facing permanent erectile dysfunction. This case highlights the importance of men who experience prolonged erections getting immediate medical help.

Man Likely To Be Impotent After Failing To Treat His Erection

The report says that the 55 year-old businessman actually endured an erection that lasted for a whopping 21 days! This is almost unbelievable and it is reckoned that it was brought on by a neurological condition. The man who has not been named claims that he had not used erectile dysfunction medication and the doctors confirmed this saying that his Priapism was caused by a peripheral nervous system disorder.

Because the man took so long to get professional help the doctors believe that he may have done permanent damage to his penis. Erections which last for more than four hours without subsiding need to be dealt with immediately because the blood supply inside the penis needs to be changed to ensure fresh oxygenated blood is present. The lack of fresh oxygenated blood can cause the two cylinders called the corpora and cavernosa inside the penis to become damaged.

In extreme cases of Priapism the blood is drained out and fresh blood is therefore allowed to circulate again. Some people say that Priapism can be caused by the use of the erectile dysfunction meds Viagra, Cialis and Levitra but there is no clinically relevant evidence to support this.

The process by which Priapism is relieved is relatively simple and painless and men should never wait to the point of extreme pain and discomfort before going into hospital because they could be putting their future erectile function in permanent danger.

The urosurgeon Mr. Avishek Mukherjee at Wockhardt Hospital in Kolkata explained that they were able to create a simple drainage point between the corpora and cavernosa which easily let out the stagnant blood and relieved him immediately of great pain.
