More Evidence That Smoking Leads To Impotence

We’ve written stories about this before and new evidence shows that men who smoke greatly increase the chances of suffering from erectile dysfunction. The new research project which was done at the Tulane University School of Public Health & Tropical Medicine which is based in New Orleans carefully examined the link between the number of cigarettes smoked and the likelihood of suffering from erectile dysfunction.

More Evidence That Smoking Leads To Impotence

They clearly saw that the more cigarettes that men smoked the bigger the risk of being unable to sustain an erection. In all the researchers looked at over seven and a half thousand men between the age of 35 and 74 and asked them very detailed questions about their sexual lives and their general health using a questionnaire.

Professor Jiang He who led the study said that men who had diabetes and smoked were at even greater risk of suffering from erectile dysfunction.  He also noted that while erectile dysfunction is not actually a disease that can be life threatening it is extremely depressing for men, and greatly compromises their quality of life, confidence and general well being. Men who suffer from erectile dysfunction are at far greater risk of suffering from depression than men who have good erectile function.

If you smoke and you feel that your erectile function is suffering before you run off to get a prescription for some erectile dysfunction drugs like Viagra, Cialis and Levitra you would be wise to first quit the smoking habit. This is likely to have a very positive effect on your erectile function and some men have reported that even after two weeks of not smoking they noticed significant differences in the quality and hardness of their erections.

Quitting smoking has obviously many other beneficial effects however doctors have noticed that the one thing that men really care about is their erectile function and that warning them of the possible sexual health implications of smoking can be an extremely good motivator for men to quit.
