Impotence And Sleep Apnea Connection

Written by Stuart Stevens | Monday, 26 June 2006

Ukmedix has previously reported on the fact that men who suffer from sleeping and breathing problems tend to have a higher rate of erectile dysfunction then men who sleep well and breathe easily when they sleep. Recently more research data has come into the Ukmedix newsroom that reconfirms this to be true.

Overall the research that was conducted on a group of thirty men noted that 24 of them also were experiencing erectile dysfunction in differing degrees. Researchers point to a number of different reason as to why exactly the breathing problems in sleeping cause impotence but it appears that breathing problems may cause oxygen to be deprived from the body which over the long term may harm the cardiovascular system.

Other research has shown that a healthy heart and cardio system are essential for maintaining a good sexual function and preventing erectile dysfunction so anything that causes bad oxygen levels and breathing difficulties will eventually impact on your ability to sustain an erection.

Sleep apnea has also been shown to lower the amount of the hormone testosterone in the blood. Testosterone is a very important factor in the maintanence of an erection and of the whole sexual process. Many different things come into play when an erection happens and testosterone is one of the essential ingredients of a good erection.

General good health and good cardio function are needed for good erectile function and doctors often see an erection problem as a warning of a heart problem.
