The latest craze to appear to in Vietnam is that a certain type of worm when eaten can cure erectile dysfunction. This has led to hundreds of people going to the Can Gio salt marshes to dig up the special worm called Dia Sam or Sipunculus to use its Latin scientific name.

The concern of the authorities in Vietnam is not just that the Dia Sam worm has absolutely no clinically proven effect on erectile dysfunction but that the huge numbers of them being dug up are affecting the local ecological system of the forests where they live. Tran Minh Long who heads the Loi forest security guards said that the Dia Sam worm is an extremely important part of the cycle by where the ground is enriched and the trees therefore grow better.
The craze for these worms is not just limited to Vietnam but a big export market to China has also developed. The Chinese are notorious for buying huge quantities of traditional erectile dysfunction medication all of which have absolutely no proven clinical effect and therefore any benefit derived to men who use them is a purely a placebo effect.
The Dia Sam worm is extremely easy to dig up as they do not borrow very deep and as the worms are fetching the very high price in Vietnam the people who dig them up are making good money. The worm diggers are becoming increasingly sophisticated and using special camouflages and disguises to avoid the forest guards from seeing them.
It continues to amaze us at Ukmedix News that people can be so naïve and gullible and expect that a simple worm can be more effective in curing an erectile dysfunction problem than the clinically proven drugs Viagra, Cialis and Levitra. Apart from the obvious disgusting taste that these worms are bound to have they could even be dangerous for your health.
