According to a Saga survey elderly men and women are putting themselves in danger of getting sexually transmitted diseases as they do not always use contraception. The survey which examined attitude to sex among men and women over the age of 50 saw that ten percent of these sexually active individuals did not use contraception and many of them said that they had no idea of their different partner’s sexual histories.

Saga said that it was surprising how sexually active many people over the age of 50 were and described many of them as having a “frisky” sex life. Saga looked at almost 8,000 men and women over the age of 50 and the results showed that 65 percent of them were sexually active and almost 50 percent of them stated that they got sex at least once a week.
Older women who are less fertile often believe that they do not need to use condoms because they are unlikely to get pregnant however they must remember that condoms are not just there to prevent pregnancy but also to prevent sexually transmitted diseases.
The use of erectile dysfunction medications Viagra, Cialis and Levitra means that older men are able to have far more sex than they used to be able to and many of them have rediscovered their sex lives. Because of their advanced ages they are sometimes reckless and the number of elderly people suffering from sexually transmitted diseases and AIDS is on the rise.
Sixteen percent of those men interviewed said that they did use erectile dysfunction medications to boost their sex lives. At Ukmedix News from our experience we know that this figure is likely to be far higher in reality as men who suffer from erectile dysfunction are often embarrassed to admit it. In reality the figure is likely to be closer to 40 percent.
