A new type of erectile dysfunction medication for men is being developed by a pharmaceutical company called Rexahn based in America. The drug which has been given the name Zoraxel is different in that it does not function like the PDE-5 Inhibitors, Viagra, Cialis and Levitra and instead it works by acting on the brain.

Zoraxel functions by activating the neurotransmitters in the brain called serotonin and dopamine which are largely is responsible for the pleasurable feelings associated with sex. According to the Chief Executive Officer of Rexahn the drug has enormous commercial potential and if the relevant health authorities give the go ahead for sale and marketing of the drug it should sell extremely well.
This drug will be useful for men who are not able to take the impotence drugs Viagra, Cialis and Levitra due to other medical problems such as heart disease and blood pressure problems. The testing of this drug Zoraxel is still at its early stages but Rexahn have plans to start a clinical trial with about 200 volunteers sometime in 2007.
At Ukmedix News we wish Rexahn the best of luck with the research and development and hope that soon there will be another effective impotence medication on the market.
This is not the first time that an erectile dysfunction drug that works on the brain has been developed. You may remember that until about a year ago there was another erectile dysfunction drug widely promoted on the internet called Uprima which worked completely differently to the other drugs Viagra, Cialis and Levitra.
This drug is now unavailable having been recalled by its manufacturer because the sales of the drug were so low. There was nothing unsafe about Uprima but many men reported that it was ineffective for them. At Ukmedix News we believe that Uprima was a good an effective drug for some men however the percentage of men for whom it worked for was very low.
