Research done on impotence medication always produces high placebo effects...

The big news in the world of erectile dysfunction is that the humble pomegranate can have a positive effect on the erectile function of men. According to one of the researchers from the Keck School of Medicine based in California the results of a study carried out with the pomegranate juice show that by drinking regular doses of the juice it is possible to improve your erectile function without the use of prescription medications.

Pomegranate Juice May Boost Erectile Function

To test the effectiveness of the pomegranate juice a placebo controlled study in which 60 men took part was conducted over a 10 week time period. The men who took part in the study were asked to either drink 8oz. of pomegranate juice or a placebo drink every day during their supper or just after it.

The first group of men were given the pomegranate juice for four weeks and the 2nd group was given a placebo drink instead.  After the first four-week period the researchers asked both groups not to consume either the pomegranate juice or the placebo drink for two weeks in what they called a “washout period”. After this the groups were swapped round and the men who had previously been given the pomegranate juice were given the placebo drink and vice versa.

At the finish of each four-week period the men were asked to report any changes in their erectile function. The results reported that 47 percent of the men who had been taking the pomegranate juice claimed that their erectile function had improved while only 32 percent of those men using the placebo drink reported a betterment of erectile function.

We discussed these figures in the Ukmedix newsroom and we reckon that they are not a very statistically significant. It is worth remembering that research done on erectile function medication always produces extremely high placebo effects that range between 25 percent and 40 percent. The fact that almost 50 percent of the men who took the pomegranate juice claimed a boost in erectile dysfunction is almost statistically significant but nothing to get too excited about. Drugs like Viagra, Cialis and Levitra tend to produce an up to 90% result in improved erectile function.
