Polio Vaccine Does Not Cause Impotence

Rotary International the worldwide club has launched a campaign in certain parts of the world to dispel the misconception that by being given the polio vaccine means that you could end up being impotent. The Pulse Polio Trust Chairman of the Rotary International club informed the press that lengthy meeting was held with the community elders and leaders in New Delhi in order to explain the issues and to discuss the implications of not having the polio vaccine.

It has been noted for many years that people in India think that if you have a polio vaccine you have a very high chance of becoming impotent and this means that many people don't get their children vaccinated thus resulting in a rise in the statistics of polio cases. Many of the people who believe this unfounded myth are from poorer sections of society or illiterate so they have to rely on hearsay and rumour.

The campaign of Rotary is designed to appeal to the community leaders so that they will make an effort to spread the message that it is perfectly safe to take the polio vaccine and that it will not cause impotence or erectile dysfunction. The dangers of not taking the polio vaccine especially in India are very great and it is imperative that this rumour is stopped before many more children become crippled from polio.

On the whole the message was well received and all the community leaders agreed that the rumour was unfounded and that they would push for all people and especially children to be given the vaccine. Statistics show that the rise in polio cases in parts of of India has been mainly due to the erectile dysfunction misconception and that the rumour was spreading all over the place.
