The code name for this bremelanotide drug was PT-141

When a couple of years ago Palatin Technologies announced that preliminary testing for their new erectile dysfunction medication showed good results many people thought that they were onto something big. Unfortunately the latest news is that Palatin Technologies are ditching around a third of its employees and have abandoned the research into the new drug.

Palatin Tech. Gives Up On Impotence Remedy

Palatin Technologies were hoping to develop a compound called bremelanotide which was designed not only to treat erectile dysfunction but also female sexual dysfunction which would have made it extremely popular. Unfortunately in clinical testing with this bremelanotide drug the volunteers tended to get very sudden increases in their blood pressure after using it and thus it was deemed to be unsafe for commercial use.

What was also pretty exciting about the bremelanotide drug from Palatin was that it was to be taken in the form of an inhaler and thus is effects would be almost immediate.  The erectile dysfunction drugs Viagra for example can take up to half an hour to start working and therefore some people say that the spontaneity of sexual intercourse is lost when using it, and therefore an inhaler which worked immediately with have a great demand among both men and women.

The code name for this bremelanotide drug was PT-141 and it does appear to have been successful in arousing sexual desire in both men and women but unfortunately the side effects of using it outweigh the advantages and thus clinical testing could not continue.

Money continues to be poured into different research projects to find new methods of helping men and women achieve better sexual function as the returns for the drug companies are huge. Viagra, Cialis and Levitra earn millions of pounds for their respective companies Pfizer, Eli Lilly and Bayer every year and will continue to do so in the future.
