For avid Ukmedix news readers you will have seen the stories all about bicycle riding and impotence and some of you may even remember how the Ukmedix team reported on the fact that men who operate heavy machinery could also suffer from higher incidences of impotence.
Now a new story is hitting the headlines and it is a combination of the two. It appears that men who ride motorbikes on a regular basis are more likely to suffer from erectile dysfunction and have problems maintaining erections. The research that was done in Japan (a country famous for its motorbikes and its motorcycle culture)shows that the vibrations produced by the engine of a motorbike as well as the downwards pressure in the penile area slows the blood flow to the genitals which is so important for a good erection.
The researchers in Osaka noted that 69% of male riders suffered from erectile dysfunction as compared to 35% in the non biking community. It was also observed that the older the biker was the more serious the impotence problem would be with over 90% of men over the age of 50 suffering from some degree of erectile dysfunction.
This research could prove to be useful and interesting reading for Hell's Angels and other macho posturing biker groups in the world. The Japanese research shows that if you are a regular biker that you almost double your chances of getting an erection problem which may encourage many men to seek alternative forms of transport.
In the meantime if you want to keep riding make sure that you buy a bike that has a comfy seat that doesn't place too much pressure on the area just behind the testes and that it is well padded and insulated from the vibrations below.
