Medicalising Erectile Dysfunction

At Ukmedix News we have been receiving reports that medical professionals in the United Kingdom are claiming that the big three drug companies namely Pfizer, Eli Lilly and Bayer who make the erectile dysfunction drugs Viagra, Cialis and Levitra have been hyping up and “medicalising” the erectile dysfunction problem in men. Some doctors claim that erectile dysfunction is a natural process of aging and that a man of an older age should not expect to be able to perform sexually everyday. They say that the drug companies that make erectile dysfunction drugs are giving out the impression that the man who cannot make love to his wife or girlfriend every single day has some sort of medical problem.

Erectile dysfunction is defined in three different categories, namely mild erectile dysfunction, moderate erectile dysfunction and finally severe erectile dysfunction. Obviously a man who has severe erectile dysfunction has a problem and needs medical help. A man who has moderate erectile dysfunction meaning that he is unable to sustain an erection for the duration of intercourse is also someone who the vast majority of health professionals would agree needs help with his erectile function. The big dispute is really about whether people who suffer from mild erectile dysfunction really need to take Viagra, Cialis or Levitra or whether they should be able to cope with only being able to have sex say once a week as opposed to in their younger days when they could do it on a daily basis.
At Ukmedix News we are aware that some men exaggerate the extent of their problem with their doctors in order to make sure that they get a prescription of Viagra, Cialis or Levitra and they feel that unless they take these drugs they are failing to live up to the sexual expectations of their partners. At Ukmedix News we advise that a frank and honest discussion about sexual function is always initiated in sexual relationships especially those of our long term nature, and that under no circumstances should you be dishonest with your doctor.
