The Difference Between Sexual Function And Libido

Viagra for example will not make you desire to have sex...

The Viagra, Cialis and Levitra drugs can boost the sexual function of a man but not many people know about the drugs that can negatively affect sexual function. Many medicines can interfere with sexual function and it is beneficial to know which ones they are.

The Difference Between Sexual Function And Libido

Anti depressants are the biggest culprits and if this happens they can further undermine a depressed mans attempt to get back to a happy state of mind. Prozac and similar drugs have been shown time and time again to cause some men to suffer from erectile dysfunction. This doesn’t mean that you should avoid these drugs completely but just that you should be aware that if you do suffer from impotence while using them it could be because of the medicine and not due to anything else. There are some anti-depressants that have a lesser effect on erectile function with some men so you should have a consultation with your doctor about this.

Other medicines to watch out for are blood pressure medications and even in very rare cases the hair loss drug Propecia. If you are taking any medication and you suffer from erectile dysfunction make sure you tell your doctor about the problem and the medication. Women can also suffer sexual dysfunction from the use of medicine with birth control pills and hormone replacement being the most obvious ones.

Most medicines that have a negative effect on sexual function do not actually restrict blood flow to the penile artery, (which is responsible for 80% of all erectile dysfunction) but tend to have an impact on your libido meaning your actual desire to have sex as opposed to the ability to have sex.

It is important to make this distinction, as most people do not understand the difference. Viagra for example will not make you desire to have sex more but it will just give you the ability to have sex more when you want to. The medicine that actually makes you desire to have sex more often has not yet been invented but this could soon change. Research that was done involving testosterone and women found that the male hormone could make women more interested in sex as did another compound called androstadienone that comes from a man’s sweat glands.
