Impotence Link To Exercise

More research has been done to link the lack of good physical exercise with erectile dysfunction. A research project from the Boston University School of Medicine as well as the New England Research Institutes noted that if a man works out to the tune of burning off 200 calories each day then he is much more likely to maintain good sexual function throughout his life.

The research compared men who didn't exercise and those that did and the results show that even those men who start exercising later on in life are put into a lower risk category for suffering from erectile dysfunction.

The researchers also looked at those men who gave up smoking in middle age and they noted that giving up at that late time did not really alter the statistics at all as most of the arterial damage due to smoking has been done by then. Men who smoke however have been shown in other research projects seen by Ukmedix to be at a much higher risk of erectile dysfunction and this is mainly due to the hardening of the penile arteries.

Men who quit drinking in later life were also noted not to have a big difference in erectile function. The damage alcohol does to the body varied and research has shown that a drink a day in moderation can in fact improve arterial function and thus sexual function.

The researchers also noted that men who were overweight and obese had a much higher chance of developing erectile dysfunction but the numbers were not affected much when these men lost weight. Often the damage that being overweight does to your body does not immediately dissapear with weight loss. High blood pressure can cause erectile dyfunction and this is often due to excess weight.

Men who were generally fit and who started to take exercise seriously even if at middle age lowered their risk of getting erectile dysfunction significantly. It was also observed that the men who exercised even more than the recommended 200 calories daily again improved their chances of maintaining good erectile function throughout their lives.

This study is important as it shows that the direct link between exercise and sexual function exists and that while other factors can help you to be rid of erectile dysfunction possibly it is exercise that is the most important and significant.
