In the latest United States clampdown on the illegal trade in fake versions of Viagra, Cialis and Levitra a man from Gardena was taken into custody by the law authorities and officially charged with selling counterfeit Viagra, Cialis and Levitra that he in turn claimed to have bought from fake drug manufacturers in China.
The 44 year old man was captured after an ongoing investigation and was undertaken by the US Food & Drug Administration. The FDA as well as approving new drugs for sale also has an Office of Criminal Investigations to deal with fake and illegal drugs. The man in custody was charged with criminally trafficking in counterfeit products and also for the selling of counterfeit drugs.
The investigation has been going on for 8 months after customs officials from the US Customs and Border Protection found a parcel that was being mailed to the man in question from China. The parcel had been labeled incorrectly saying that it contained 'samples of plastic' and on further investigation it was noted that it contained pills that looked identical to Viagra, Cialis and Levitra pills. In line with correct procedure they were sent to the FDA laboratory and they were found to be fake.
At the beginning of February authorised agents from the FDA spoke to the man and he admitted to buying the drugs from China over the internet. He claimed that the drugs were being sold on to others who then sold them to end users in Asia. The man gave himslef up completely probably in the hope of getting a lenient sentence from a judge and possibly to avoid a jail sentence. He handed over all the papers in connection with the trading of the illegal drugs and even told then how and where he got the illegal drugs from, naming names in the process and identifying the counterfeiters.
