A fact that hardly anyone knows is that epileptics are more likely to suffer from erectile dysfunction than other men. A report that we came across recently at Ukmedix News shows that the likelihood of erectile dysfunction is even more severe if the epileptic fits are not controlled well.

Many different factors come into play for a man to sustain an erection and the brain is an important part. Epilepsy which is a neurological illness can interfere with brain activity that controls libido and sexual function. It is also worth remembering that the drugs that epileptics use to control the epileptic attacks can also impair sexual function on their own. Two drugs that are often used by epileptics are phenytoin and carbamazepine and they can both lower the all important levels of testosterone in men.
If you are epileptic and you suffer from erectile dysfunction it could be that you should speak to your doctor who may be able to prescribe you a different medicine that will not have such a big effect on your sexual and erectile function. Men even report that the stigma that comes along with the epileptic condition can have an effect on their mental well being, their self esteem and thus this can be translated into impotence problems.
Being an epileptic means that you need to make sure that you find out exactly what is causing your erectile dysfunction before taking any medication for it. There is no reason why epileptics cannot use the world famous erectile dysfunction drugs Viagra, Cialis and Levitra but it is important that your doctor knows about any medical condition that you have before you use them.
On the whole erectile dysfunction medications do not interact badly with other medications but you should always check with your doctor first. For example men who use nitrates to control blood pressure are definitely not allowed to use normal erectile dysfunction medicines.
